About

Forming a band is very easy because the definition is just this:

“a company of persons or, sometimes animals or things, joined, acting, or functioning together; aggregation; part; troop: a band of protesters.”

More exact in terms of music it is

“a group of instrumentalists playing music of a specialized type: rock band; calypso band; mariachi band.”

This definition does not say anything about what a band exactly is, though everyone has an exact perception what a band is or has to be. From loose jam bands to worldwide renowned artist everything is put under the exact same term “band”.
The four of us also claim to be a band and we seem to have everything a rock band needs: a singer, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. But the lineup was not always like that. Due life is subject to change, the band “Fire On Dawson” also is. From the founding members only Martin (bass) is left. The present lineup consists of Ankur (vocals), Martin (bass), Markus (guitar) and Max (drums).

Our perception of being a band is most probably very similar to what a lot of people think. Play music together. But as we progressed in our band life we found another dimension to it. It is not only about the music.
It is preparation, it is sound evolution, it is discussions, it is getting your vision straight as a band or in first place: get a vision – where do you want to go. This vision is very loose, rather a glance of an idea where this all could lead, since a lot of things happen to you when you are on the road and interacting with the other part of the performance – the audience – and that can turn around your self-conception in ways you never would have thought. It is about understanding what you want to tell and want to show and what this awakes in your audience.
